Dartmouth - Barbara M. (Johnson) Abreu, 72, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth, after a long illness.  She was the loving wife of George Abreu, to whom she was married for 49 years, and loving mother of George Philip Abreu.
     Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Henry J. and Josephine (Zak) Johnson, she lived here all her life.  She was a graduate of St. Anthony High School and Kinyon Campbell Business School.  She worked in the office alongside her husband, George in Abreu's Auto Body Shop for over 25 years.
     In addition to her loving husband and son,  survivors include a sister, Katherine M. Troutman, nephews and nieces, Harry, Jr., Cheryl, Barry, Diane, Michael, Philip, Stephanie and Steven, all of Jermyn, PA; a sister-in-law, Nazare Abreu, brother-in-law, Edward Abreu, sister-in-law, Philomena Abreu Taber and husband, Ernest, and nephew, Anthony Taber, all of New Bedford, and niece, Elizabeth Taber of Fairfax, VA.  She was the aunt of the late George and John Troutman.
     The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the staff at Brandon Woods for the love and wonderful care provided to Mrs. Abreu.  They are grateful and thankful to the staff and  to Hospice for the loving care and support given to her husband and son.  They also sincerely thank Oaks Rehab for their loving care of Mrs. Abreu.
     Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2014 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M.  Burial will follow in the Polish National Cemetery.  Visiting hours are Monday, 5 - 8 P.M.  Arrangements are with Machnowski Funeral Home, 472 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.  For condolences, please visit www.machnowskifuneral.com.
