New Bedford – Lucille (Rego) Vieira, 78, of New Bedford, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a very long bout with various illnesses.  Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late David and Adrienne (Boucher) Rego, she lived here most of her life.  She spent 2 years in San Pedro, CA with her former spouse, the late Richard Vieira as a military wife.
     She worked at the former Eastern Sportswear office for 27 years, and later at P.A.C.E. Child Care Works as a billing specialist for 15 years, retiring in 2007.  
     Lucille was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church of New Bedford, where she was a past-member of the Ladies’ Guild and a former member of the church choir.  She also loved volunteering her help at the bazaars or wherever needed until her illness got worse.  Lucille loved having a good time with family and friends.
     She was a 1960 graduate of St. Anthony High School, and took I.B.M. programming language courses at Johnson & Wales College in RI.
     Survivors include 2 daughters, Debra A. Bourque and husband, Thomas of Fairhaven and Kim M. Souza and husband, Randy of Dartmouth; 1 sister, Gloria Bentley of New Bedford and 1 brother, Dennis Rego of New Bedford; 3 grandchildren, Stephanie Smith of Fairhaven, Dustin Bourque of Kansas, and Brandi Buelterman of New Bedford; 2 great-grandchildren, Jake Silva of New Bedford and Paige McEachern of Fairhaven; 2 nephews, Brian Addison of Long Island, NY and Scott Rego of New Bedford; 1 niece, Cheryl Olejarz and husband, Douglas of New Bedford; 2 uncles, Roger Boucher of Rochester and Donald Boucher of Germany; many cousins, and her best friend of many years, Claire Wilcox.  She was the sister of the late David J. Rego and Madeleine (Rego) Conner.
     Lucille’s family will receive relatives and friends at 10:30 A.M. prior to her Funeral Mass at 11 A.M., Thursday, October 1, 2020 in St. Mary’s Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford.  Burial will be private at a later date.
     Following the Mass, everyone is invited to a bereavement gathering at Century House, Acushnet.
     In lieu of flowers, donations in Lucille’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

To the Viera and Rego Family, We wish to express our deepest sympathy for the loss of your Mother, sister and friend. I am an old school friend of Lucille's and we would meet occasionally to exchange news on family or other school friends. We, my husband and I will keep her in our prayers and hearts. She was a very good person. May she rest in peace, and God be with you all in this difficult time.
