New Bedford – Alfred J. Rock, 97, died Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of the late Rita (Chaisson) Rock.
Born and raised in New Bedford, son of the late Origene and Josephine (Choiniere) Rock, he lived here all his life. He was employed as an engineer for the telephone company until his retirement.
He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, having received the WWII Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
An avid hunter, Alfred was a member of the Fin, Fur and Feather Club and the New Bedford Rod and Gun Club, as well as a member of the NRA. He enjoyed traveling to New Hampshire with his friends and Doc. Mellodey.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Wilfred, Joseph, Leopold, Adrien, Edward, Aldhemar and Ovila Rock, Aldea Davignon, Valeda Monjeau, Florida Carreau, Alberta Broadbent and Alexina Allard.
His funeral Mass is at 10 A.M., Saturday, March 13, 2021, at St. Francis Xavier Church, Acushnet, followed by burial with military honors in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Bedford. Please wear masks and practice social distancing.
