Andrzej "Andy" Fejdasz Obituary
New Bedford - Andrzej "Andy" Fejdasz, 97, died at home, Thursday, July 20, 2017. He was the husband of the late Stanislawa "Stasia" (Popielarz) Fejdasz.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Michael and Franciszka (Szczygiel) Fejdasz, he lived here all his life. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, where he and Stasia were active in their church's functions and activities.
Andy was a U.S. Army Corp. veteran of WWII, having attained the rank of Technical Sergeant. He joined the Army Air Corp. during WWII, and was sent to North American Aircraft Co. in California to train as a mechanic on the B25 Mitchell Bomber. After training, he was shipped out with the 488th Bomb Squadron on October 3, 1942. He served at several locations in North Africa and Malta, and was honorably discharged on September 20, 1945. Upon returning to the U.S., he married Stasia, and some years later, they built their home in the northend of New Bedford. He was a recipient of the Marion Medal from the Diocese of Fall River.
Andy was very active with the Polish-American Veterans Organization and was both Vice Commander and Commander of the group. He was instrumental in establishing the Polish-American Veterans War Memorial in 1995.
In his early youth, Andy worked in grocery markets owned by Sam and Murray Shuster. He also worked at Aerovox Corporation where he met his wife, Stasia. After the war, Andy was employed by American Defense Products in New Bedford, and later, with his wife, Stasia opened and operated Andy's Market in the northend. He then worked for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, CT.
After 18 years at Pratt and Whitney, Andy and Stasia decided to pursue their love of gardening and landscaping and started Andy's Nursery, which became a thriving business. Andy was a likeable businessman by many people who came to purchase his shrubs, flowers and vegetables. He had a knack for gardening and enjoyed the interaction with his customers. Andy and Stasia will also be remembered for their enduring yard-sales.
Survivors include 1 sister, Stasia Paleczka of Fairhaven; 4 nieces, Theresa Losey of Plano, TX, Sharon Morgan of Dartmouth, Dorothy Menard of Acushnet, and Frances Bouchard of New Bedford; 4 nephews, David Rioux of Missouri City, TX, Stephen Rioux of Michelon, NJ, and Leon Cierpial of Bedford, MA, and Steven Popielarz of Waldorf, MD; 1 brother-in-law, Stanley Popielarz and wife, Jeanne of Bedford, NH and their children, Anthony Popielarz and Marie Parisi.
He was the brother of the late Mary Cierpial, Stella Kosior, Stanley Fiejdasz, Edward Fiejdasz, and Michael Fiejdasz and brother-in-law of the late Stephen Popielarz and Stephanie Rioux.
Visitation is 10:30 - 12:00 noon, Tuesday, July 25, 2017 with a service at 12:00 noon at Machnowski Funeral Home, 472 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. His burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Bedford.
