Bertha Holtwick Obituary

Bertha L. Holtwick, 99, of New Bedford passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 11, 2020.  Born in New Bedford, 1920, she was the daughter of Polish immigrants, Bartholomew and Helena Mikus.
      Raised in New Bedford and graduating from nursing school in Boston, 1942, she joined the Army Nurse Corps during WWII.  For 3 years she served as an officer in the South Pacific- New Caledonia and Guadalcanal.
     She returned to New Bedford to raise her family.  Professionally, she worked at St. Luke’s Hospital for over thirty years.  For most of her career, she was the orthopedic nursing supervisor.
     She is survived by two daughters, Karen and Suzanne, grandmother of four and great grandchildren.
     Her funeral will be private.
