Carolyn J. (Powers) Lavoie

Westport – Carolyn J. (Powers) Lavoie, 78, died Thursday, April 2, 2020.  She was the loving companion of the late Bruce Rish who passed in 2016.
     Born in Fall River, daughter of the late Robert E. and Ruth (Gosciminski) Powers, she lived in New Bedford and Fairhaven for many years. She was a homemaker.
     Carolyn enjoyed cooking, canoeing, and gardening.  She was known as the “Cat Lady” of Fairhaven, because of all the strays that she took care of in the neighborhood.  She especially looked forward to spending Christmas and Easter with her grandchildren.
     Survivors include 2 daughters, Robbin and Raeanne Lavoie; 2 sons, Roger and Raymond Lavoie; 1 brother, Timothy Powers; 2 sisters, Geraldine Powers and Joann Sullivan; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
     She was the mother of the late Robert, Richard and Ruth Ann Lavoie, and sister of the late Kevin Powers and Robert Powers.
     The visitation for Carolyn and Bruce is at 10 A.M., Monday, October 19, 2020 with a memorial service at 11 A.M. in Machnowski Funeral Home, 472 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.  Burial will follow in Acushnet Cemetery.  Please wear masks and practice social distancing.
