Darlene Almeida

Darlene Almeida, 60, of New Bedford, died Thursday, April 2, 2026, at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Robert and Gerladine (Carreiro) Simmons, she lived in the city her entire life.

Darlene was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. In her free time, she enjoyed drinking her coffee, playing her cross stitch, crocheting, drawing, and listening to music. She especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. 

Darlene is survived by her three sons, Nathan Almeida, Jonathan Almeida, and Sean O' Connell; her daughter, Amanda Almeida; her three brothers, Robert Simmons Jr., Joseph Simmons, and Marc Marlowe; her two sisters, Marjorie Santos and Sherry Castillo; and her nine grandchildren.

She was the sister of the late Matthew Simmons.

Visiting hours are Tuesday, April 7, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a service at 5:30 p.m. at Machnowski Funeral Home, 472 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.
