Donald Desroches, builder and proprietor of a Mobile Home Community, died January 27, 2024 at the age of 87 due to complications from a stroke.
Born April 24, 1936 in New Bedford to the late Arthur Desroches and Anna Daignault, he was the youngest of 12. After a stint in the Marines, Donald returned home where he met and married Alberta Jaros with whom he shared 49 years of marriage before her untimely death in 2007. Donald and Alberta enjoyed many winters with friends in Florida.
An avid golfer he was a former member of Reservation Golf Course. Starting out in the roofing business with his brother, he eventually branched out and started a building and development company that constructed over 100 homes on the South Coast before retiring at the age of 47. He then acquired a small Mobile Home Community which he managed until his death.
Donald leaves behind his son David and partner Jo-Ann Richard of Acushnet, his granddaughter Danielle Village of Middleboro, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his 11 brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 30th from 4 -7 p.m. at Machnowski Funeral Home, 472 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. A service will be held at the funeral home the next day at 10:00 a.m., followed by burial at Riverside Cemetery.
