Eugene Mierzejewski, 95, died Saturday, September 14, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Repki, Poland, the only son of the late Stanislaw and Leokadia (Gumkowska) Mierzejewski, Eugene came to the United States from Poland in 1947 and lived in New Bedford for most of his life. He worked for the Acushnet Company in the Rubber Division until his retirement. He was also a member of the former Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.
Eugene enjoyed fishing, travelling, gardening, and playing cards. He also enjoyed attending many church picnics where he loved to dance. He will be especially missed by his many friends. He loved having coffee with them every Sunday at Wendy’s, as well as fish and chips every Friday at Knucklehead’s with Richard.
Eugene is survived by his brother-in-law, Richard Machnowski; his sister-in-law, Kia Knox; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours are Wednesday, September 18, 2024 from 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at Machnowski Funeral Home, 472 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, with a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in New Bedford. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
