Francis C. Morey

New Bedford – Francis C. Morey, 101, died Friday, January 6, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Helen P. (Mello) Morey.

Born in Mattapoisett, the son of the late Francis K. and Ethel (Dexter) Morey, he lived most of his life in New Bedford. Francis served proudly in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked as a pumping station operator for the water department until his retirement.

Francis enjoyed spending time with his family and PeeWee.

Survivors include his son, David F. Morey and his wife, Cheryl of Mattapoisett; his daughter, Susan J. Dias and her husband, John of Dartmouth; 3 grandchildren, Gregory P. Margis, Charles D. Margis, and Christopher D. Morey and his partner, Andrew Jensen; and 2 great-grandchildren, Brielle and Elise Margis.

He was predeceased by his 3 sisters, Beverly Farwell, Catherine Macomber, and Florence Morey; and his granddaughter, Elizabeth A. Morey.

His visiting hours will be held Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. at Machnowski Funeral Home, 472 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, with a service at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.
