Gerard "Jerry" Marcotte, age 82, of New Bedford, passed away on January 26, 2025.
He was the loving husband of Judy Ann (Gonet) Marcotte to whom he had been happily married for 55 years.
Born in New Bedford, a son of Walter and Doria (Marcotte) Marcotte. He was a lifelong resident of New Bedford. He graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1960. He served in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1968.
He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 25 Marine Division, Brooklyn, NY. He retired in 2003 after being employed by Exxon Shipping Company and SeaRiver Maritime as an Unlimited Able Seaman Tankerman for more than 22 years. He was a member of Exxon/Mobil Annuitant Club of MA and RI.
"Jerry" was a devout Catholic, and communicant of St. Joseph's/St. Theresa's Church, and later of St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish. He enjoyed many hours watching his grandchildrens' athletic events. In earlier years, he could be found walking miles around Pine Grove Cemetery, or playing cards with the guys. He was an avid fan of all New England sports teams.
Gerard is survived by his wife, Judy; his son Matthew and his wife, Erin of New Bedford and their children, Thomas and Katherin; his daughter Caryn and her husband, Jamis Gamache of Acushnet and their children, Allyson and Nathan. He leaves his sister Lina Marcotte of New Bedford. He is predeceased by his brothers Paul, Joseph, Leo and Louis, and his sister Doris Marcotte. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Gerard's family is grateful for the care he received from the staff at Sacred Heart Nursing Facility, and the spiritual guidance of Father John Ozug.
In honor of Gerard's wishes, a mass of Christian burial was celebrated privately on January 30th, 2025.
Arrangements were with Machnowski Funeral Home, 472 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.
