"Jim" Hickey, age 79, passed away on February 5, 2025.
He was the loving husband of Kathleen (Hughes) Hickey to whom he had been happily married for 56 years.
Born in New Bedford, a son of James and Rita (Becotte) Hickey, he was a lifelong resident of New Bedford. He graduated from Holy Family High School in 1963, and then earned a Business Degree from SMU. He served in the United States Army National Guard from 1968 to 1974.
As a Licensed Contractor, he then started his own business. He continued to run "Design Workshop" until he retired. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, time with his grandchildren, reading, playing cribbage with friends, and spending winters in Florida.
Jim was a communicant of St. John Neumann Parish.
James is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his son, Darren Hickey and his wife Cindy of Brookhaven, Georgia; his daughter, Erin and her husband Matthew Marcotte of New Bedford and their children, Thomas and Katherin. He leaves his sister Kathryn King of Freetown. He also leaves his brother-in-law Floyd Genthner. He is predeceased by his sister Eileen Genthner. He also leaves behind nephews Scot and Marc Genthner and their families.
A funeral will be held at St. John Neumann Church, East Freetown, on March 1, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. He will be interred at St. John Neumann Church Columbarium. Visiting hours will be at St. John Neumann Church on March 1, 2025 at 9:00 a.m., prior to the funeral service.
