Janice Machnowski

New Bedford – Janice (Twarog) Machnowski, 77, died Thursday, July 21, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the wife of Richard Machnowski for 43 years.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Pawlik) Twarog, she lived in Mattapoisett most of her life. She was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, and a member of the Polish Women’s Business and Professional Club. 

Janice was a devoted, faith-filled, Catholic School Educator for a total of 42 years until her retirement. She served at Holy Family High School, Holy Family Grammar School, and Holy Family Holy Name School, where she taught Art to thousands of children through the years. Janice brought much laughter to her co-workers and friends. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor and many kindnesses. 

After retirement, Janice devoted her time to her funeral home, assisting her husband with arrangements and helping others in their time of grief.

Janice was also an excellent artist and loved music and classic films. She especially loved her cat, Mimi.

Survivors include her husband, Richard; a son, Richard Machnowski Jr. and his wife, Lindsay; a brother, Steven Twarog and his wife, Sue; a sister, Jean Bouthillette; 2 grandchildren, Lucas and Christian Machnowski; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. 

She was the sister of the late John, Walter Jr., and Stanley Twarog. 

Her visitation will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2022, from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. in St. Lawrence Martyr Church, 565 County St., New Bedford, with a funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, followed by reception at Century House, Acushnet.
