Janice D. Whitmer

New Bedford – Janice D. (Moniz) Whitmer, 83, died Monday, April 25, 2022 at CareOne at New Bedford. She was the mother of Cheryl Whitmer. 

Born in Acushnet, daughter of the late Frank and Jeanette (Kowalczyk) Moniz, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life. 

Janice was a hairdresser for 40 years and worked at Barbara Marie’s Beauty Salon for 27 years. Before retirement, she was employed by UMass Dartmouth at the Commuter Café for 6 years.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. 

Janice enjoyed sweets, watching TV, playing bingo and cards. 

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Whitmer of New Bedford; a sister, Sandra Brodeur of New Bedford; 1 niece, Sheri Brodeur Morin and her husband, William of Fairhaven; 1 nephew, Todd Brodeur and his wife, Beth of Acushnet; 2 great nieces, Jillian Brodeur and Lily Morin; and 1 great nephew, Andrew Morin; several cousins and many dear friends. 

Visiting hours are Friday, April 29, 2022 from 4-7p.m. with a service at 6:30p.m. at Machnowski Funeral Home, 472 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Her burial is private.
