Joseph M. Begin

Joseph M. Begin, 93, died Saturday, July 27, 2024 at his home after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Rolande (Lemieux) Begin.

Born in Central Falls, RI, son of the late Valere and Eulalie (Giroux) Begin, Joseph lived in New Bedford for most of his life. He was a United States Army veteran during the Korean War.

Joseph was known as an excellent handyman who could fix anything. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking and gardening, and most mornings he could be found catching up with old friends and coworkers over coffee. He also loved bird-watching on the Acushnet River with his son Christopher, as well as spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joseph is survived by his daughter, Janice Mello; 3 sons, Robert, Ronald, and Christopher Begin; 7 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was the brother of the late Louis Begin and Rhea Gilbert.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Machnowski Funeral Home, 472 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, with a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.
