Joseph Mendes

New Bedford - Joseph Mendes, 89, died Monday, November 5, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital.  He was the husband of Dolores F. (Lafleur) Mendes.  They were married 64 years.
     Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Eduardo and Elvira (Ribeiro) Mendes, and lived here all his life.  He was employed as a sprayer at Acushnet Co., until his retirement.
     Mr. Mendes enjoyed reading and was a fan of all New England sports teams.
     He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
     Survivors include his wife, Dolores; 1 son, Ronald Mendes and wife, Donna of New Bedford; 1 daughter, Doreen Mendes-Santos of New Bedford; 3 granddaughters, Kerri Mendes, Taylor Mendes, and Leah Santos; and 1 greatgrandson, Kayden Lavoie-Mendes.
     He was the brother of the late Alfred Mendes, Antonio Mendes, Mary Mendes and Alice Gadomski.
     Visiting hours are 4 - 7 P.M., Friday, November 9, 2018 at Machnowski Funeral Home, 472 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.  His Funeral Mass is at 9 A.M., Saturday, at St. Joseph-St. Therese Church, 1960 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford, followed by burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
