New Bedford – Leocadia “Lee” (Szczech) Motyl, 90, died Friday, June 19, 2020 at home surrounded by her loving family. Finally. she has joined her husband, Mitchell to be home with Jesus.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Stanislaw and Helena (Kubat) Szczech, she lived here all her life. Lee was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. She was employed by the fishing industry as a bookkeeper until her retirement.
Lee enjoyed baking and was known for decorating beautiful cakes, and especially making galombki and pierogi with her family. One of her favorite pastimes was crocheting. Lee was an active participant in her church’s festivals and greatly loved singing in the choir.
She is survived by 1 son, Edward Motyl and wife, Jeanne of New Bedford; 1 daughter, Frances Motyl and companion, Richard Gacek of Acushnet; and fondly remembered by 3 granddaughters, Jillian Ouellette and husband, Sean, Katelyn White and husband William, Lauren Motyl and partner, Donna Brown; 6 great grandchildren, Avery, Harrison, and Fiona White; Kai, Koa and Fynley Ouellette.
Lee was the sister of the late Walter Szczech, Francis Szczech, Genevieve Szczech, Stasia Dubois and Phyllis Ciborowski.
Great thanks to the wonderful love and support given to “Babci” by her special angels.
Her funeral Mass is at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 23, 2020 in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, New Bedford. Face masks are required. Burial is private. Arrangements are with Machnowski Funeral Home, 472 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. For condolences, visit www.machnowskifuneral.com.
