Maria E. Alvarez Ortiz

New Bedford – Maria E. Alvarez Ortiz, 62, died at home, Monday, January 18, 2021.  She was the wife of Edwin Lugo.
     Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Juan Alvarez and Candida Ortiz, and lived in New Bedford for several years.  She was employed as a legal secretary for the court house in Puerto Rico, before her retirement.
     Maria was a very religious woman and attended ICM Jehova Mi Rocha.  For Maria, her church was her life.
     She is survived by her husband, Edwin; 2 sons, Miguel Nieves and Jose Secarra; a daughter, Lumarie Nieves; 2 brothers and 2 sisters; 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
     Visitation is Thursday, January 21, 2021, from 9:00 A.M. – 10:30 A.M., with a service at 10:30 A.M. at Machnowski Funeral Home, 472 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.  Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.  Please wear masks and practice social distancing.
