New Bedford – Maria Margarida (Gouveia) Pimentel, 79, passed away Friday, June 12, 2020 at Care One Nursing Home, due to complications from Covid-19. She was the wife of the late Artur P. Pimentel; they were married for 58 years.
Born in Agualva, Azores on November 8, 1940, the daughter of the late Jose and Maria (Baptista) Gouveia, she lived in New Bedford for many years. She was employed as a stitcher at Cliftex and as a packer at Sherwood Brands until her retirement.
Maria enjoyed cooking, as her specialty were Portuguese recipes for her family with the help of her late husband, Artur. One of her favorites were malassadas.
Maria will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, who will be dearly missed for her exceptional love and patience that she gave to her family. In return, her family devoted their time and love to care for her until her last day. It always gave her family a chuckle when one of Maria’s favorite sayings to them was, “Ah, forget it!”
Maria is survived by 4 sons, Arthur Pimentel and wife, June of New Bedford, Gil Pimentel and partner, Ted Jones of New Bedford, Mario Pimental and wife, Fran of Fairhaven, and Steve Pimentel and wife, Jennifer of Acushnet; and 1 daughter, Teresa Oliveira and husband, Manny of New Bedford; 1 brother, Antonio Gouveia of Terceira; 8 grandchildren, Stephanie, Mario, Shawn, Stacey, Michael, Sammy, Sergio and Sabrina; and 4 great grandchildren, Liam, Grace, Hudson and Carter.
She was the sister of the late Conceicao Martins, Maria Gouveia, Agusta Santos, Abel Gouveia, Luis Gouveia and Jose Gouveia.
