Robert Cyr Obituary

New Bedford - Robert A. Cyr, 85, died Monday, May 23, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospital.  He was the husband of Joan (Cantwell) Cyr.
     Born in New Bedford, son of the late Joseph and Juliette (Parent) Cyr, he was a lifelong resident of the city.  He was a retired math professor at Bristol Community College.
     He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
     Mr. Cyr was a former Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Men of the Sacred Heart and the American Canadian ACA.  He was a former swimming instructor at the Ted Williams Camp.  He loved tennis, square dancing, camping, the ocean, puzzles and Sudoku.  Most of all, he loved his family.
     Survivors include his wife Joan; 2 daughters, Michele Fontaine and husband, Jean-Paul of New Bedford and Suzanne Wieghmink and husband, Daniel of Fairhaven; 14 grandchildren, Erin Pereira, Heather Cyr, Nichole Cyr, Rebekah Christofi, Elizabeth Carter, Jacob, Joel and Jonathan Fontaine, Kelsey and Nicholas Glennon, Dakotah and Tristyn Wieghmink, Adam and Alan Brun; and 8 greatgrandchildren.
     He was the father of the late Robert and David Cyr, and brother of the late Roland Cyr.
     Visiting hours are 4 - 8 P.M., Friday, May 27, 2016 at Machnowski Funeral Home, 472 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.  His funeral is at 8 A.M., Saturday, from the funeral home, followed by a Mass at 9 A.M. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, New Bedford.  Burial with military honors will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
     In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's memory may be made to Bristol Community College.
