New Bedford - Rose (Alphonse) Souza, 93, died peacefully surrounded by her family, Saturday, September 26, 2015 at New Bedford Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late Charles J. Souza.
Born in New Bedford, daugher of the late Abel and Mary (Gouveia) Alphonse, she was a lifelong resident of Acushnet. She was employed as an inspector at Acushnet Process, rubber division until her retirement.
Mrs. Souza was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She was an avid dancer and enjoyed going to the casino and playing cards.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Soucy and husband, Normand of Acushnet; 2 sons, Charles Souza and wife, Claire of Acushnet and Douglas Souza of New Bedford; 5 grandchildren, Normand, Jr. and Brian Soucy, Sharon Souza, Lynn (Souza) Lewis and Christina Souza; 2 step-grandchildren, Colleen and Michael; 5 greatgrandchildren, Garrett, Tatum and Quinn Soucy, Tristan and Hunter Lewis; 2 step-greatgrandchildren, Mark and Erin Lewis; and 3 great-greatgrandchildren, Brantley, Ava and Steven.
Mrs. Souza was the sister of the late Josephine Correira, Rose Wilcox and Georgianna Duke, who all helped to raise Rose as a child.
Her funeral service and burial in Acushnet Cemetery were private.
