Ruth Vieira-Leandre

Ruth Vieira-Leandre, 64, of Springfield, died Thursday, May 7, 2026, at home after a brief illness.

Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Daniel and Deolinda P. (Paulos) Butts, she lived in Dartmouth for most of her life before moving to Springfield four years ago.

Ruth loved to drive and worked for the Star Cab Company for many years. She also enjoyed Disney and was very fond of cats. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Ruth is survived by her son, Joshua Vieira; her two daughters, Rebecca Vieira and Catherine Vieira; and many grandchildren.

She was the mother of the late James Leandre and Michael Vieira.

Visiting hours are Sunday, May 24, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a service at 12:30 p.m. at Machnowski Funeral Home, 472 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.
