New Bedford - Virginia (Kuczewski) Romanowicz, 93, of New Bedford passed away peacefully on Friday, February 5th at St. Luke's Hospital, surrounded by her children after a period of declining health. She was the widow of the late Rudolph Romanowicz and daughter of the late Wladyslaw and Katarzyna (Swierad) Kuczewski.
She is survived by her children, Christine Teser of Dartmouth, Deborah Machado and her husband, Edward of Freetown, Danny Romanowicz of New Bedford and Ronald Romanowicz of New Bedford. She was predeceased by her son, Carl Romanowicz and her grandson, Matthew Teser.
She is also survived by her brother, Thaddeus Kuczewski of Taunton and her sisters, Patricia Walasik of Bethel Park, PA and Alice Prentice of Vero Beach, FL. She leaves behind four loving grandchildren, Courtney Teser of Nantucket, Evan Bouchard of Westport, Sarah and Rudy Romanowicz, both of New Bedford.
Her life revolved around her family, from raising her children and being ever present for her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, baking and knitting and was especially fond of knitting hats for newborns at St. Luke's. She was an avid New England sports fan, never missing the Red Sox and Patriots games. In her spare time her love for word search puzzles was unparalleled.
She was a communicant of St. Casimir's Church and later, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.
Friends and family are invited to calling hours, 4 - 7 P.M., Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Machnowski Funeral Home, 472 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Her funeral will be at 9 A.M. Friday, from the funeral home, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 A.M. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 235 North Front St., New Bedford. Burial is in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
