Walter Bobola Obituary
New Bedford - Walter J. Bobola, 97, died Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Sacred Heart Home. He was the husband of the late Irene R. (Poulin) Bobola.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Andrew and Mary (Izdebska) Bobola, he was a lifelong resident of Acushnet. He was employed as a machinist at the U.S. Naval Station in Newport, RI until his retirement.
Walter was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, stationed in Hawaii.
He was an avid reader and gardener, and enjoyed doing charitable works for the church and the nuns.
Survivors include 2 nieces, Brenda Tavares and husband, Richard of Tiverton, RI and Donna Guillotte and husband, Michael of New Bedford; sister-in-law, Annette Lyonnais and brother-in-law, Leo Lyonnais; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was the brother of the late Genevieve Westgate.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 3, 2022, from 9:30a.m. to 10:30a.m., at Machnowski Funeral Home, 472 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, with a Mass at 11:00a.m. in St. Francis Xavier Church, Acushnet.
