New Bedford - Yvette M. (Tanguay) Ferreira, 82, of New Bedford, died Saturday, May 20, 2017 unexpectedly, surrounded by her loving family, at St. Luke's Hospital after 17 years of kidney dialysis. She was the former wife of the late Thomas Ferreira, Sr.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Desire and Diana R. (Thibault) Tanguay, she lived most of her life in Acushnet before moving to New Bedford. She was employed at Acushnet Co. rubber division for 23 years, and then a CNA until her retirement.
Mrs. Ferreira loved to read books, travel and enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. She especially adored the color purple.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Kathleen A. Tanguay and her husband, Paul J. Tanguay of Lakeville, Elaine Brienzo and her companion, David Besso of Acushnet, and Diane Paradis and her husband, Steve of Mattapoisett; 1 son, Joshua T. Ferreira and his wife, Helana Sylvia of Fairhaven; 1 sister-in-law, Nancy Tanguay of New Bedford; her godchild, LuAnn Mello; 10 grandchildren, Paul Tanguay, Jr., Michael Tanguay, Rebecca Ferreira, Thomas Ferreira, III, Jennifer Almond, Justin Ferreira, Tessa Brienzo, Joseph Souza, Tammy Paradis and Michael Paradis, ; 4 great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Marchessault, Jacob Joseph, Trenton Souza and Chastity Girard; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Thomas Ferreira, Jr. and sister of the late Donald V. Tanguay.
Visiting hours are 4 to 7 P.M., Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Machnowski Funeral Home, 472 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Her funeral is Friday at 9 A.M. from the funeral home, followed by a Mass at 10 A.M. in St. Francis Xavier Church, Acushnet. Burial is in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
