Zygmunt Siwik Obituary
New Bedford - Zygmunt R. Siwik, 92, died Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Care One New Bedford. He was the husband of the late Josephine (Correia) Siwik.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Alexander and Mary Ann (Gorska) Siwik, he was a lifelong city resident. He was employed as a machine operator at Continental Screw, and also worked for the city of New Bedford until his retirement.
Mr. Siwik was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He volunteered for service February 23, 1943 at the age of 18 and was discharged, honorably, November 7, 1945. Among the decorations and citations he received were 4 campaign medals: American, Asiatic-Pacific, European-African-Middle Eastern and Philippine Liberation Campaign Medals. He also received the Good Conduct Medal, 3 Overseas Service Bars and 2 Bronze Stars.
Survivors include a son, Gary Siwik and his wife, Jeanne of Acushnet; 1 brother, Stephen Siwik of Acushnet; 2 grandchildren, Andrea Waine and her husband, Matthew of North Reading and Amy Siwik of CA; 2 greatgrandchildren, Olivia and Travis Waine of North Reading; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Stella Krisnosky, Theodore Siwik, Eugene Siwik, Charles Siwik and Edward Siwik.
Visitation is 9-11 A.M., Monday, May 15, 2017 with a service at 11 A.M., at Machnowski Funeral Home, 472 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. John's Cemetery, New Bedford.
