Cambridge - John J. Fisher, 90, of Fairhaven, MA died Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at the Cambridge Hospital.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, a son of the late Robert and Francis (Peineke) Fisher, he lived in Fairhaven for several years.  He was employed as a salesman before his retirement.
Mr. Fisher was a U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force veteran, having served his country from 1941 to 1951.  Technical Sergeant John J. Fisher, United Air Force, distinguished himself by an act of heroism near Kindley Air Force Base, Bermuda, on November 3, 1949.  During an attempted emergency landing, a B-29 aircraft on which Sergeant Fisher served as aerial engineer crashed into the ocean and burned.  Without regard for his own personal safety, he assisted in removing a critically injured crew member from the plane and supported him in the water until rescued.  Sergeant Fisher's heroic efforts to save the life of a fellow airman despite rough seas, burning fuel, and his own injuries reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
He was a faithful attendant of daily Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.  He loved flying airplanes.
Survivors include 2 sons, Tom Fisher of Colorado and Owen Fisher of New York; 1 daughter, Ann Fisher of New York; and 5 grandchildren.
Mr. Fisher was predeceased by 7 brothers and 1 sister.
His funeral service and burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne are private.
