New Bedford – Edwina (Kuczewski) Romanowicz, 99, died Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at the Jewish Convalescent Home of New Bedford.  She was the wife of the late John Romanowicz.
     Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Antoni and Wladyslawa (Jurczykowski) Kuczewski, she was a lifelong resident.  She was employed as an estimator for the Standard Times until her retirement.
     Edwina was a member of the Lady’s Auxillary and the Friends of Poland.  She was an avid gardener and a member of the New Bedford Garden Club.
     She was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of WWII, having attained the rank of Sergeant.
     In the 1990’s, the U.S. Marine Corps flew Edwina out to Camp Pendleton to honor the first group of women who survived in the Marine Corps.  A plaque was dedicated to them and placed on the barracks where they lived.
     Survivors include 2 sons, Craig Romanowicz of Mattapoisett and Wayne Romanowicz of Bridgewater; 3 daughters, Paula Kasik of Palm Desert, CA, Sheila Romanowicz of New Bedford, and Sharon Mendonca of Dartmouth; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
     She was the sister of the late Eugene Kuczewski  and Alfred Kuczewski.
     Visiting hours are 8 – 9:30 A.M., Saturday, July 25, 2020, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 A.M. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, New Bedford.  Burial with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

My condolences to Edwina's family. Very proud to have met her and placed her photo on display when I was at the military museum.
